Demetrius Costy

Demetrius Costy has been practicing criminal defense in the Bay Area for over 20 years. During that period of time, he has gone to court, almost every single day, and has earned a stellar reputation as a problem solver and skilled litigator.

Demetrius was born to be a lawyer. It is the only career he has ever wanted to pursue. He was raised in Oakland, and graduated with honors from Bishop O’Dowd High School in 1990. Four years later, he graduated from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

In 1996, Demetrius enrolled at the University of San Francisco School of Law in order to fulfill his destiny of becoming a criminal defense attorney. While in law school, he took every class, clinic and internship available in order to prepare himself to represent criminal defendants. He enrolled in the criminal law clinic, the investigations clinic, and the intensive advocacy program. He also participated in moot court at USF, where he won best brief and later flew to New York to participate in a national moot court competition. While in law school, Demetrius also had full-time criminal defense internships during the summers, where he conducted client interviews, coordinated factual investigations, researched and drafted motions, and assisted attorneys in argument and cross-examination preparation. He also worked during school, at the law library to help pay his tuition.

In 1999, Demetrius Costy graduated from the University of San Francisco School of Law. He passed the California Bar on his first attempt and within months flew to Arizona and tried his first case.

Demetrius has handled cases in State and Federal court in 15 different counties in California, as well as Hopi Tribal Court in Arizona. Demetrius has represented thousands of clients and has tried cases all over the Bay Area.

Demetrius Costy and his wife have been together for 15 years. She teaches elementary school. They have 2 children, one girl and one boy. When not working, or spending time with his family, Demetrius can be found practicing Muay Thai (Thai Kickboxing) which he has done weekly for the past 12 years.
